Using centralized cold supply systems is reasonable, if the total area of salesrooms is 400 m² and more. As a rule, a modern supermarket store also features utility rooms with refrigeration chambers for storing trade stock and workshops for manufacturing semi-products. Using centralized cold supply system in such situation is also reasonable, even in smaller area of salesrooms.

Centralized refrigeration systems are multi compressor aggregates with compressors placed in parallel. They are highly cost-effective, reliable and imply low operational costs.

Central multi compressor aggregates possess a range of advantages and provide:

-electric power saving due to applying big compressors with higher EFF, adjusting productiveness depending on the real heat loads;
-high reliability of cold supply due to “hot” and “cold” power reservation;
-significant increase (in 4-6 times) of compressor lifetime with the aim of even resource consumption;
-lowering expenses on conditioning and ventilation system due to the absence of heat loss from refrigerating equipment both in salesroom and in utility rooms;
-increasing the comfort level in salesrooms and utility rooms by the lack of noise from refrigerators;
-lowering operation expenses, increasing the efficiency of control, diagnostics and adjusting all technological parameters of the operation mode;
-performing technical maintenance of refrigeration equipment without interrupting the operation of salesrooms.

As a rule, a centralized cold supply system for a big supermarket consists of two multi compressor units installed in engine room and two air-cooled condensers standing outside the building (usually on the wall or roof). One of the aggregates supplies all mid-temperature equipment with cold, while another services low-temperature equipment of the supermarket. Usually the number of compressors in one aggregate varies from two to six depending on the required refrigerating power and characteristics of cold consumer system.

Lately some modern manufacturers produce complex multi compressor centrals in order to reduce the area occupied by “central” aggregates. They provide cold for both mid- and low-temperature consumers. Mid-temperature and low-temperature compressors are mounted on a single frame in such centrals. As a rule, they are connected to a single outboard condenser via a general oil separator. Such construction solution allows making the area of an engine room 2-2.5 times smaller. In some cases this is the only possible solution.

In case of a need, when there is no engine room in the layout design of the supermarket due to the lack of area, the engineers install special multi compressor aggregates, usually structurally combined with air condenser located outside. Such aggregates are equipped with heat and noise insulation coat and do not require any external enclosure. They are capable to operate in environmental temperatures down to -40^оС.

There are two types of cold supply available:
1. Refrigerating equipment with built-in aggregates
2. Remote refrigeration of sales outlet, warehouse

Refrigerating equipment with built-in aggregates is equipment where each unit has its own refrigerating aggregate mounted inside the shop-front, cabinet, etc. Such equipment is simple and convenient. However, it is cost-effective only for small stores with the salesroom area up to 150 sq.m and for enterprises renting the rooms for not less than 3-5 years. The equipment consumes rather big amount of electric power, emits heat directly into the salesroom, produces noise at the store and possess lower reliability compared to remote refrigeration.

Remote refrigeration of sales outlet, warehouse

In such construction the refrigerating aggregate is installed outside shop windows, cabinets, etc. One remote aggregate can feed either one unit or a few hardware units of the same type, connected linearly. In minimal possible body rather powerful aggregate is assembled, based on spiral compressor with full set of automatic controls and safety means. To run such aggregate it’s enough to connect it to cold consumers and electricity mains, perform vacuum pumping of pipeline from evaporator. The whole kit is delivered charged by Freon gas and adjusted automatics.
